Aleksey Plekhanov is from Moscow, Russia. He graduated
from the State Vaganova Ballet Academy of St.
Petersburg, Russia in 1990 receiving his Master of Fine
Arts. Upon graduation Mr. Plekhanov was soloist with the
world famous Stanislavsky Ballet Theatre, and the
Bolshoi Ballet (Moscow, Russia) touring France,
England, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Holland, Greece, Japan,
Hon-Kong, Taiwan, Egypt, United States, and former
Soviet Union. In 1991 he was a Guest Artist at the
International Art Festival in Spoleto, Italy. In 1995
Mr. Plekhanov was invited to join as a soloist Los
Angeles Classical Ballet and in 1996 Colorado Ballet
(Denver, Colorado).

During his 10 years with leading ballet companies Mr.
Plekhanov danced numerous classical and contemporary
roles including Blue Bird from Sleeping Beauty,
French Doll from Nutcracker, Colen from
La Fille Mal Gardee, Male Principal from
Paquita and Les Sylphides,
Soloist in G. Balanchine’s Rubies and Choo
San Goh’s Configurations, as well as solo
and principal parts in Giselle, Raymonda,
Swan Lake, The Golden Age, Stars and Stripes, Western
Symphony.
In
2003 Mr. Plekhanov completed the Intensive Course of
Vaganova Teaching Method at the State Vaganova Ballet
Academy in St Petersburg, Russia.
Mr.
Plekhanov’s teaching expertise includes ballet
technique, pointe, repertoire, partnering, and character
dance. This is Mr. Plekhanov’s second semester as an
adjunct professor with Radford University Department of
Dance and first semester as principal faculty with
RUBY (Radford University Ballet Youth) Program.

Aleksey Plekhanov is performing in the
new Nutcracker production with RU Ballet Theatre
This
fall Mr. Plekhanov assisted his wife Inessa Plekhanova,
dance professor and Artistic Director of RU Ballet
Theatre, in choreographing and producing the full length
Nutcracker. He created and staged the
Battle Scene for this performance and in addition played
one of the leading roles in act I.
