Notwithstanding, or perhaps because of, the fact that today’s world is so connected, sometimes things fall apart, “the center cannot hold”. Each of us must deal with this in our own way.

The dis-Connect that I see on so many levels leaves me feeling uncomfortable in my own powerlessness.

But it is my belief that artistic statement provides us with the hope of redemption and re-connection.

Recently seen at the Inaugural Capital Fringe Festival in Washington DC and at the Charlotte Dance Festival in North Carolina, Jane Franklin Dance "communicates with a fine kinesis"...(All the Arts Review4U) in works that challenge and delight the senses. The Arlington Va - based dance company, now in it's tenth year is known for its lively mix of dance, theater and humor and the for the ability to engage and inspire community populations of all ages. Jane Franklin Dance brings this friendly mix to Radford University in a performance sponsored by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Paul Mellon Arts in Education Program. The performance includes select dances from a collaborative project with leading Washington DC metro area poets David Bristol, Martha Sanchez-Lowery and Reuben Jackson.

Don't miss this visually compelling performance that moves the spoken word. In the interconnected dance snapshots of "Dancing the Page," determined individuals cope with oranges, rubber bands and folded pieces of cardstock paper. Music includes selections from "Cowboy Bebop," Jimi Hendrix, Charles Mingus and DC's own Jonathan Matis. Also on the program is a piece included in the International Dance Festival in New York this past summer, "To Flower" with original music by Catholic University's Snark Ensemble –Maurice Saylor/Andrew Simpson/Philip Carluzzo. The gender identifying witty fun takes hold in the surreal favorite "Leroy" with an exercise trampoline bouncing male, and women with white coat hangers hurling distant memories.
